Street Art

In its beginnings, this movement was between the fine line of aesthetic, political or social expression and vandalism, due to the illegal intervention of the public façade of the different cities, because the street artists wanted to visualise their message and intervened governmental announcements or road signs, crossing the limits of private property, even causing visual contamination. For this reason, the street artists of this movement hid their identity and used artistic pseudonyms.
Street art emerged simultaneously in different parts of the world, took shape in the 1960s and exploded in the 1990s and was considered one of the greatest artistic revolutions of the late 20th century.
In the 1980s, the New York authorities declared war on graffiti artists by cracking down hard on them, which caused street art to move to other cities such as Paris, Berlin and London.
In England, it spread to several cities, but the most popular was Bristol. In Latin America, graffiti first arrived in Brazil and then spread to the rest of the neighbouring countries. In Colombia, this movement began to emerge in the 90’s and was consolidated in the last decade, and the cities that lead this movement are Bogotá and Medellín.
