Conceptual

Conceptual photography is a creative approach to photography in which the idea or concept behind the image is most important. In this genre, the photographer uses images to convey a message or explore an abstract or intangible theme, beyond the literal representation of reality.

Unlike documentary photography, which focuses on capturing reality as it is, conceptual photography is based on imagination, experimentation and conceptualisation. Conceptual photographers use symbols, metaphors, compositions and technical manipulations to create images that evoke ideas, emotions or questions in the viewer.
